ABOUT ME

Dr. Daniel “Dan” Jones grew up in rural West Michigan near the shores of Lake Michigan, where an early love of the water led him into competitive swimming at age six. His discipline in the pool shaped much of his upbringing, carrying him through high school in Fremont, Michigan, where he and his twin brother, Bill, graduated as co-valedictorians and athletic standouts. Both went on to Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, where they earned their degrees in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology with Cum Laude distinction while competing nationally for Harvard’s varsity swim team in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly.
After graduation, Dr. Jones returned home to Michigan, teaching and coaching swimming while applying to medical school. He went on to Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, where he excelled academically as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and continued to compete at the national level as part of Columbia’s Triathlon Team. He received his Doctor of Medicine in 2014, shortly after winning his age group at the Long Course National Triathlon Championships in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The pull of the Rocky Mountains eventually led him west. Dr. Jones completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Utah, where he met his wife, balanced rigorous training with marathon and triathlon competitions, and developed a love for the mountain lifestyle. He then pursued a one-year orthopaedic sports fellowship at the Taos Orthopaedic Institute in New Mexico, where he gained unique experience covering the U.S. National Ski Team and furthered his expertise in sports-related injuries.
In 2021, Dr. Jones moved with his family to Medford, Oregon, where he now practices as an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, joint preservation, and comprehensive athlete care in Southern Oregon and the Rogue Valley. He provides orthopedic coverage for Southern Oregon University (SOU), Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT), College of the Siskiyous, and local high schools including Phoenix and Ashland. His community-focused approach reflects his belief that athletes at every level—from recreational weekend warriors to varsity competitors—deserve access to high-quality orthopedic care.
Now the proud father of two children, Dr. Jones has built strong roots in Oregon. He enjoys integrating into the community, supporting local athletics, and bringing his expertise to help patients return to the activities they love.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Jones and his family embrace the Southern Oregon lifestyle. He enjoys trail running with Frank, his Wirehaired Pointer, and spending time with Maggie, their bulldog–pug mix. Together with his wife and children, he hikes, backpacks, skis at Mt. Ashland, and enjoys their backyard with more than 10 chickens and a growing garden. Cycling and swimming remain lifelong passions, and he also enjoys the craft of building bike frames out of bamboo.
With his exceptional training, athletic background, and dedication to the Rogue Valley community, Dr. Jones brings both experience and empathy to his patients—helping them recover, stay active, and thrive.
